Pleas entered in theft cases

Four defendants in pending criminal cases involving theft incidents entered guilty pleas in Carbon County court on Tuesday.

Judge Steven R. Serfass accepted the pleas from the following:Palmerton incidentDanielle Diane Eremus, 27, of Lehighton, pleaded to one count of retail theft for an incident on Feb. 19.Palmerton police responded to the Family Dollar Store at 454 Delaware Ave. for a person in custody for retail theft. Eremus was caught trying to steal $16.54 worth of merchandise from the store.Eremus was recently picked up on an arrest warrant and is an inmate in the county prison on other criminal charges.Serfass sentenced her to time-served (10 days) to 12 months in prison. She was also ordered to get both a drug and alcohol and mental health evaluations and render 50 hours of community service when released from jail.She will remain in custody on the other pending charges.Other casesCurtis Lee Margle, 25, of Lehighton, pleaded to one count of theft of services.He was arrested by Franklin Township police for an incident on Jan. 26 at the Country Inn & Suites along Interchange Road. He paid for a room at the inn with a credit card that was rejected. He was told that the card was not good and was given time to pay for the room, but never did.He is currently in the county prison on other charges.Serfass sentenced him to time served (28 days) to one day less 12 months in jail. He was also ordered to get a drug and alcohol evaluation and follow any recommendations for treatment, make restitution to the victim for $201.51 and render 50 hours of community service when released from prison. The sentence runs consecutive to any other sentence he is currently serving, Serfass ruled.Tara Ann Osborn, 27, of Lehighton, pleaded to one count of receiving stolen property. A charge of forgery was dropped in a plea bargain.She was charged by Lehighton police for taking two checks belonging to Heather Wert, of Lehighton, and cashing them.Serfass placed her on probation for 24 months and ordered her to get a D&A evaluation, make restitution to the victim for $234, and render 50 hours of community service.Katelynn Marie Solt, 22, of Lehighton, pleaded to one count of receiving stolen property.She was arrested by Jim Thorpe police for taking a gold ring from a residence on Lehigh Street and pawning it at the Time Will Tell business in Lehighton. The incident occurred on June 21, 2014.Solt said she had a drug habit and spent 20 days in an inpatient program.Serfass placed her on probation for 24 months and ordered her to get a D&A evaluation, render 100 hours of community service and make restitution to the Lehighton store for $45.Each defendant must also pay court costs of about $1,000, and a $50 per month supervision fee while on probation or parole.
