Juror responds for duty with heroin, is arrested

A Jim Thorpe woman who reported for Carbon County Court of Common Please jury duty in March has been arrested by borough police for being in possession of heroin and paraphernalia at the time she reported to the courthouse.

Antoinette Louise Petko, 73 North Ave., is facing misdemeanor charges of possession of a controlled substance and possession of drug paraphernalia as a result of the incident on March 9.Police said they were summoned at 11 a.m. that day to the Carbon County Sheriff's Department, located on the first floor of the courthouse, at which time they were informed a deputy sheriff conducting a search of jurors found Petko to be in possession of two small wax paper baggies containing a white powdery substance in her makeup case. Also found to be in her possession was a black straw coated with a white substance.Police said Petko allegedly admitted to the deputy that the substance in the baggies was heroin and that the straw was intended to be used for ingesting the controlled substance.
