National TV debut for former Tamaqua waitress

A former server at a Tamaqua restaurant, aspiring to a singing career, will hit the big time Tuesday evening.

Vocalist Samantha Johnson, 26, will be showcased before an international television audience of more than 10 million when she steps on stage to compete in "America's Got Talent," NBC's top-rated summer series.

The show is scheduled to air at 8 p.m.

Johnson is the granddaughter of Gloria Smulligan and the late Kenneth Smulligan, Tamaqua, and daughter of Denise Smulligan, Summit Hill.
