Eight placed in probation program

Eight people with pending criminal charges were placed in Carbon County's Accelerated Rehabilitation Disposition probation program on Tuesday by Judge Joseph J. Matika.

If a person successfully completes all conditions of the program, their record is wiped clean. However, if they fail to complete it, or are revoked from it, they will face trial on all pending charges. A person does not admit guilt in entering the program.All were placed for a year, unless otherwise noted.Stephanie Ann Barron, 33, of Nesquehoning, was placed on a driving under the influence charge. She was arrested on July 2, 2014, along Route 209 by Nesquehoning police. A test showed the result showed the presence of a controlled substance.She was assessed $600 for the cost of the program and ordered to render 50 hours of community service, and her license was suspended for 60 days.Kevin Donnell Caldwell, 24, of Mansfield, Ohio, was placed on a charge of possession of a small amount of marijuana. He was arrested on Nov. 23, 2014, following a vehicle stop along Interstate 80 in Kidder Township by state police at Fern Ridge.He was assessed $450 and ordered to render 50 hours of community service.Alexandra Sophi Eveland, 20, of West Hazleton, was placed on a DUI charge. She was arrested on Feb. 1 along Fern Street in Banks Township by state police at Hazleton. A test showed 0.20 BAC.She was assessed $550, ordered to render 50 hours of community service and her license was suspended for 90 days.Jenifer Marie Jones, 43, of Lansford, was placed for two years on a charge of simple assault. She was arrested on Jan. 1 by Lansford police for an incident in the unit block of East Abbott Street with Desire Devers, the listed victim.She was assessed $450 and ordered to render 100 hours of community service, get a drug and alcohol evaluation and follow any recommendations for treatment, attend and complete anger management counseling, and have no contact with Devers.Kevin Kyle Kaufman, 23, of Lehighton, was placed on a charge of fleeing or attempting to elude police. He was arrested on Jan. 20 by Mahoning Township police after he was observed driving a Volkswagen Jetta at a high rate of speed on Route 902. Police said the vehicle crossed over the double yellow line as it approached an oncoming police vehicle in a curve. Police said the officer turned around and attempted to stop the vehicle, which accelerated, and the officer lost sight of it. The car was located a short time later as it failed to stop for a stop sign on Breezewood Drive.Kaufman was assessed $450 and ordered to render 50 hours of community service.Michael Gerald Snyder, 21, of Lansford, was placed on a charge of endangering the welfare of children. He was arrested by Lansford police on Jan. 30 at 233 E. Ridge St. Police said Snyder was smoking marijuana in a room where his 6-month-old daughter was present.He was assessed $450 and ordered to get a D&A evaluation and attend and complete parenting classes.Jason Jay Stevens, 30, of Hazle Township, Luzerne County, was placed on a DUI charge. He was arrested on July 27, 2014, along Broad Street by Beaver Meadows police. A test showed 0.21 BAC.He was assessed $550, ordered to render 50 hours of community service and his license was suspended for 60 days.Jesse Stilitino, 19, of Summit Hill, was placed on a DUI charge. He was arrested on May 12, 2014, along Patterson Street by Lansford police. A test showed the presence of a controlled substance.He was assessed $600, ordered to render 50 hours of community service and his license was suspended for 90 days.Each defendant must also pay court costs of about $1,000, and a $50 per month supervision fee while in the program.
