ANTHONY HEATH'S DEFENSE

Anthony Heath of Allentown, convicted of strangling to death Angela Steigerwalt of Tamaqua with a speaker wire on Jan. 31, 2014, acted as his own attorney in his trial in Lehigh County Court.

Here are the highlights of Heath's defense:1. In his opening statement, Heath told jurors that Steigerwalt's death was a tragic accident.2. He suggested during his cross-examination of prosecution witnesses that police failed to properly inform him of his Miranda rights, and failed to give him a break when he asked for one during a 90-minute interview.3. Heath said he tried to cover up Steigerwalt's death because he had promised her to not let her family know if she died during an unconventional sex act.4. Heath called as a witness Allegheny County chief medical examiner Dr. Karl E. Williams to testify that Steigerwalt died of accidental erotic strangulation, not intentional strangulation.
