Franklin 'junkyard' complaints discussed

Multiple residents were present at the recent Franklin Township Supervisors meeting to vent their issues with a local "junkyard."

The township zoning officer reported that the property of Ahner's Used Auto Parts has been inspected by the Department of Environmental Protection due to recent complaints of illegal dumping, a campground, free running sewage and gray water, and other zoning issues.Currently, the township is awaiting a report from DEP on their findings of a recent inspection of Ahner's Used Auto Parts, located at 1309 Indian Hill Road.Under new business, a request from Ahner's Used Auto Parts for approval or renewal of their junkyard permit was denied by a unanimous vote. According to the township zoning officer, without this permit they cannot continue to operate as a junkyard and would be facing a zoning violation if they do.In other business, Franklin Township Fire Chief Bruce Wolfe was on hand to receive the annual donation from the township to the Franklin Township Fire Department. The donation was $36,000 from the township to the fire department toward their operating budget.Dante Angelus of Motola's Paving donated approximately $400 in spare parts for the township's paving machine.Supervisor Robin Cressley said, "Mr. Angelus replaced his paving machine and thought it would help out the township with spare parts that he had, which we could use for our paving machine."
