Silberline will serve as a sponsor for Kidz Karnival

Lisa Scheller, Chairman of the Silberline Manufacturing Company in Hometown, announced the company will serve as the major sponsor for the Second Annual Tamaqua Salvation Army Kidz Karnival. This year's fundraising event will be held from 2-9 p.m. Aug. 4 as part of Tamaqua's National Night Out.

The "karnival" will feature food, games, prizes, rides and lots of activities for children between the ages of 3 and 12. It will be held in the North Railroad Street parking lot, across from the Tamaqua Train Station and just south of the Tamaqua Community Ambulance garage.NNO is being sponsored by the Tamaqua Safety Initiative. This year's event will feature a special event, "Dear Tamaqua ... In A New Light."Over the past 18 months, the safety initiative has collected letters and commentaries from the public, offering insights into what residents and visitors see as the strengths and weaknesses of the borough. Those submissions will be brought to life through the efforts of the Touchstone Theatre of Bethlehem.Beginning at 7:30 p.m. Aug. 4, walking groups will begin a magical tour of downtown Tamaqua, where performers will bring those Dear Tamaqua letters to life. The tour will be repeated at several intervals.Volunteers are needed for the tours and the carnival.A volunteer meeting for National Night Out will be held at 7 p.m. July 23 at the Tamaqua Community Art Center, 125 Pine St., Tamaqua.
