Five placed in probation program
Five first-time offenders in the criminal justice system were placed in Carbon County's Accelerated Rehabilitation Disposition probation program last week by Judge Steven R. Serfass.
If a person successfully completes all conditions of the program, their record will be wiped clean. However, if they fail to complete it or are revoked from it, then they will face trial on all pending charges. A person does not admit guilt in entering the program.All were placed for a year.Jeffrey Joseph Fennimore, 40, of Slatedale, was placed on a charge of driving under the influence. He was arrested on Feb. 8 along Bridge Street in Weissport by state police at Lehighton. No blood/alcohol report was included in the arrest report.He was assessed $600 for the cost of the program and ordered to render 50 hours of community service and license suspended for 60 days.Jordan Elizabeth Sample, 20, of Lehighton, was placed on a charged of possession of marijuana. She was arrested on Aug. 24, 2013, in the 300 block of Mauch Chunk Street by Mahoning Township police.She was assessed $450 and ordered to get a drug and alcohol evaluation and follow any recommendation for treatment and render 50 hours of community service.Elizabeth Catherine Stevens, 36, of Lehighton, was placed on a charge of obstruction of the administration of law and other government functions. She was arrested on March 7 by Lehighton police in the area of 298 Bridge St.She was assessed $450 and ordered to render 50 hours of community service.Sarah Theresa Harley, 39, of Gilbertsville, Montgomery County, was placed on charge of DUI. She was arrested on Nov. 4, 2014, along Blakeslee Boulevard Drive by Lehighton police. A test showed the presence of a controlled substance.She was assessed $600, ordered to render 50 hours of community service and her license was suspended for 60 days.Austin Gregory Homlak, 19, of Palmerton, was placed on a DUI charge. He was arrested on Dec. 27, 2014, along Gold Road in Lower Towamensing Township by state police at Lehighton. A test showed the presence of a controlled substance.He was assessed $600, ordered to render 50 hours of community service and his license was suspended for 90 days.Each defendant must also pay court costs of about $1,000, and a $50 per month supervision fee while in the program.
