State police are investigating a dwelling fire which appears to have been started by the homeowner.

Shortly after 7 p.m. Friday neighbors reported spotting smoke pouring from a ranch style home at 271 Chestnut Drive North in Eldred Township.

Neighbors also reported finding the female occupant of the home to the rear acting in an inappropriate manner.

Fire companies from several Monroe county communities raced to the scene quickly extinguishing the flames. They then searched for the occupant, finding her a short time later.

She was evaluated at the scene before being transported to the Pocono Medical Center in East Stroudsburg.

It is believed the female set fire to the home. The scene is just a short distance from Weir Lake Road.
