Palmerton school district approves personnel moves
Palmerton Area School Board voted on several personnel issues this week.
The school board on Tuesday unanimously agreed to hire Trahn Thompson as a full-time maintenance employee at $47,594, effective July 1.Additionally, the board also hired Daniele Bowman as an extended school year teacher at the rate of $30 an hour, as needed, for July and August.The board also approved the resignations of Bethany Rowland as a sixth-grade teacher at S.S. Palmer Elementary, as well as Jenna Haydt from the summer position.In other business, the board approved:• Tenure for teachers Ryan Sharkazy, junior high school; Ralph Andrews, junior high school; Trisha Green, Towamensing Elementary; William Zeky, Towamensing Elementary; Brittany Hunsicker, Towamensing Elementary; and Suzanne Lynn, junior high school, who have obtained three years of satisfactory ratings with the school district.• Holly Sell, grades K-1; Roberta Yeager, grades 2-3; Meghan Barclay, grade 4; Deanna Iles, grade 5; and Monique Hofford, grade 6, as curriculum coordinators at Parkside/S.S. Palmer for the 2015-16 school year.• Joyce Paulinho, grades K-1; Susan Warakomski, grades 2-3; Susan Deem, grade 4; Kathryn McKeon, grade 5; and Jaclyn Ivancich, grade 6, as curriculum coordinators at Towamensing Elementary for the 2015-16 school year.• Patricia Boyd, co-chair, English/language arts; Kevin Kolodziejski, co-chair, English/language arts; Kim Seiler, social studies; Kathy Englert, math/science; and Whitney Babyak, secondary specialists, as curriculum coordinators at the junior high school for the 2015-16 school year.• Bonnie Tavella, co-chair, English; Anna Corby, co-chair, English; Michael Gombert, co-chair, social studies; Paul McArdle, co-chair, social studies; Pamela Wuest, math; John Hrebik, science; Thomas Smelas, business; Jose Elvir, foreign language; and Carol Andrews, health/physical education, as curriculum coordinators at the senior high school for the 2015-16 school year.• Director Susan Debski as board treasurer, effective July 1, 2015 through June 30, 2016, at the rate of $400.• Chris LaBar-Hoffman as a summer employee at the rate of $7.25 an hour, for 28 hours a week, effective June 15, through Aug. 20.• To retroactively dissolve the Michael Graver Scholarship at the request of the family, with remaining funds of $2,308.24 distributed at the May 28 ceremony.
