2 charged with painting graffiti in Boulder Field
Two Monroe County residents have been arrested for spray painting numerous rocks and trees in Boulder Field at Hickory Run State Park in Kidder Township.
According to court records, Chelsea Patricia "Toothpick" Dunleavy, 20, of East Stroudsburg, and Nicholas T. Marudis, 29, of East Stroudsburg, were charged by the Department of Conservation and Natural Resources' Bureau of State Parks at Hickory Run, following an investigation into graffiti vandalism at the national natural landmark last month.Both face one count of criminal mischief, a felony offense, and two counts violation of rules on commonwealth property, a summary offense.Dunleavy and Marudis were arraigned June 11 in front of Magisterial District Judge Edward Lewis of Jim Thorpe, who set bail at $50,000 unsecured for each defendant.Both posted and have been released until their preliminary hearings, scheduled for June 24 before District Judge Joseph Homanko.The incident occurred sometime between late afternoon May 13 and early morning May 14.According to the affidavit, that morning, park officials discovered several of the rocks in Boulder Field, as well as one tree had been spray painted. Found on the rocks included initials "CPD" and "NTM;" names "Nick," "Chelsea Dee" and "Chelsea AKA Toothpick" and several statements, including "God sees everything" and "We want you."Rehabilitating the area is expected to cost over $5,000.DCNR officials conducted the investigation and found four cans of spray paint in the area, which matched the colors used on the rocks, as well as a library card from Eastern Monroe Public Library that had been issued to Marudis.Officials later learned through a tip on May 23 that Marudis told his roommate he had "spray painted some rocks" in Boulder Field.Investigators also contacted Walmart in East Stroudsburg and learned that Dunleavy purchased the paint the afternoon before the incident with a credit card.Dunleavy and Marudis were seen on store video surveillance leaving together with the paint.
