Three area residents were injured in a rollover crash along Interstate 80 in New Castle Township, Schuylkill County, that occurred at 7:24 a.m. Saturday.
State police at Frackville said Lorraine Durning, 49, of Lansford, was driving a 2013 Kia Forte Eco southbound in the right lane and attempted to enter the left lane. The driver's side rear of the Kia hit the passenger side of a 2013 Kenworth W900 tractor with 1990 Etnyre flatbed trailer operated by Justin Miller, 36, of Dover, York County.After impact Durning lost control of the Kia, which went onto the berm and toward the center median, where it hit an embankment. The Kia then rolled over and came to rest on its wheels on top of another embankment in the median.A rear-seat passenger, Cathy Johnston, 69, of Tamaqua, had to be extricated from the vehicle. Johnston, Durning and front-seat passenger Sharon Whispell, 48, of Tamaqua, were injured. Troopers indicated Johnston sustained a moderate injury while Durning and Whispell had minor injuries. The police report did not indicate where the injured were taken.After impact Miller pulled his rig onto the center median. He was not injured.Damages were disabling to the Kia, which was towed from the scene, and minor to the rig. Assisting at the scene were volunteers from Frackville Fire Department and Shenandoah EMS unit.
