Luzerne County woman sentenced on drug count

A Luzerne County woman was sentenced to a short prison term and placement in an alternative probation program on Thursday in Carbon County court on a drug charge.

Sherrell Starr Taylor, 35, of West Hazleton, was sentenced by Judge Joseph J. Matika to serve 28 days in prison, followed by 17 months in the Intermediate Punishment Program, with the first 62 days on electronic monitoring. However, she won't be serving any jail time since she was given credit for 28 days spent in an inpatient rehabilitation program.Taylor previously pleaded guilty to one count of criminal conspiracy-possession with intent to deliver a controlled substance.She was arrested on March 5, 2014, by Weatherly police after she was involved in the sale of heroin to a confidential informant in the area of 218 Carbon St.Taylor told Matika she was continuing her drug rehab with a outpatient treatment program which includes three hour sessions, three days a week with a counselor.Matika also ordered her to get a drug and alcohol evaluation, zero tolerance imposed for D&A use, supply a DNA sample, render 75 hours of community service, pay court costs of about $1,000, and pay a $50 per month supervision fee.Her IPP placement will be through the Luzerne County probation department.
