Seven placed in probation program
Seven first-time offenders in the criminal justice system were placed in Carbon County's Accelerated Rehabilitation Disposition probation program on Thursday by Judge Joseph J. Matika.
If a person successfully completes all conditions of the program their record will be wiped clean. However, if they fail to complete it, or are revoked from it, then they would face trial on all pending charges. A person does not admit guilt in entering the program.All were placed for a year, unless otherwise noted.Kevin Fairley, 63, of Nesquehoning, was placed on a charge of driving under the influence. He was arrested on Dec. 26, 2014, along High Street by Nesquehoning police. Given a test, the result was 0.08 BAC.He was assessed $450 for the cost of the program.Joanne Marie Feller, 54, of Jim Thorpe, was placed on a DUI charge. She was arrested on April 29, 2014, along Ridge Street by Lansford police. Given a test, the result was 0.13 BAC.She was assessed $500 and ordered to render 50 hours of community service, and have her license suspended for 60 days.Harry John Gasker Jr., 31, of Nesquehoning, was placed on a DUI charge. He was arrested on July 13, 2014, along Center Street by Nesquehoning police. Given a test, the result was 0.16 BAC.He was assessed $600 and ordered to render 50 hours of community service, and license suspended for 60 days.Connie Lynn McCullough, 47, of Andreas, was placed for six months on a charge of retail theft. She was arrested on Dec. 19, 2014, by Mahoning Township police at the Walmart store.She was assessed $450 and ordered to make restitution of $373.30 and stay out of the store during the probation period.Jessica Ann Pascoe, 49, of Weatherly, was placed on a charge of theft by unlawful taking. She was arrested on Jan. 2 by Weatherly police for taking a gold pocket watch belonging to Matthew Pascoe, 536 W. Main St. The watch was recovered.She was assessed $450 and ordered to render 50 hours of community service and make restitution of $350 to the Lehighton Gold and Silver Exchange.Megan E. Rhoades, 20, of Hazleton, was placed for two years on various drug-related charges. She was arrested on Nov. 22, 2011, along East Main Street, by Weatherly police.She was assessed $650 and ordered to get a drug and alcohol evaluation and follow any recommendation for treatment, zero tolerance imposed on D&A use, and render 100 hours of community service.Zakary K. Stranger, 24, of Lehighton, was placed on a charge of firearms not to be carried without a license. He was arrested on Feb. 12 in the area of 139 W. Catawissa St., by Nesquehoning police. He had a Rugar .40-caliber handgun in his possession.He was assessed $450 and ordered to render 50 hours of community service.Each defendant must also pay court costs of about $1,000, and pay a $50 per month supervision fee while in the program.
