LCCC names vice president for academic services

Dr. Thomas Meyer has been appointed vice president for academic services and student development at Lehigh Carbon Community College, president Dr. Ann Bieber announced.

Meyer will start in the position July 1.Meyer earned a doctorate in educational linguistics, a master's in teaching English to speakers of other languages and a bachelor's degree in English literature, all from the University of Pennsylvania.Meyer served as dean of academic and student affairs at Broward College's downtown center in Fort Lauderdale, Fla.Prior to Broward College, he worked at Miami Dade College as dean of academic affairs responsible for the schools of computer/engineering and architecture and culinary. He worked his way up to dean from associate dean, and before that as chair of the department of English as a second language/foreign languages/translation and interpretation.He has been a faculty lecturer at colleges and universities in both Pennsylvania and Florida. In addition, Meyer served as a management consultant for a hospital, government agency and pharmaceutical manufacturer, where he learned best practices in customer service, continuous improvement and operational efficiency. This provides him insight into public/private partnerships and workforce development from a business perspective."Dr. Meyer brings a strong background in community colleges from across the country and will add his experience to leading LCCC's Academic Services and Student Development," Bieber said. "In addition, his experience in business will help promote the college's partnerships with area industry."
