A Carbon County woman was sentenced to a long probation period of Tuesday in the county court on a drug dealing charge.
Elizabeth Els Ruckhardt, 35, of Nesquehoning was placed on three years probation by Judge Joseph J. Matika, who said he felt she was making progress in addressing a drug addiction problem. She previously pleaded guilty to a charge of possession with intent to deliver a controlled substance.Ruckhardt was arrested by agents of the attorney general's office after she sold marijuana to a confidential informant on Feb. 7, 2014, in the 200 block of West Catawissa Street in Nesquehoning.Authorities received information that Ruckhardt was selling drugs in the area and had the CI set up the purchase.Ruckhardt told Matika that since her arrest she had gone into rehabilitation programs for an addiction problem and is continuing a counseling program.Public defender Attorney Paul Levy presented documentation of her rehab involvement. He also noted health problems she is also experiencing.Matika said from reviewing the presentence investigation report prepared by the adult probation office, he saw a lot of "bad and ugly" in her life concerning her drug use and dealing, but also saw "a glimmer of hope."He said because of that he would not send her to jail.In addition to the probation period Matika ordered her to get both a drug and alcohol and mental health evaluations, supply an DNA sample since the charge is a felony, zero tolerance imposed on D&A use, pay court costs of about $1,000, pay a $50 per month supervision fee while on probation, and render 50 hours of community service.
