The Jim Thorpe Community Art Festival opened for the season with a tribute to the late Mary Packer Cummings, the last member of the illustrious Asa Packer family.

The Jim Thorpe Area Commerce Association planted two pink rhododendron bushes in front of the Dimmick Memorial Library in memory of this revered woman, whose beneficence continues to assist educational, cultural and charitable organizations in the borough. While much of the two-day activity was centered in St. Mark's-St. John's Episcopal Church on Race Street, the entire Mauch Chunk Historic District got lots of attention from the thousands of visitors who converged on the borough.
