Leibensperger wins in Rush

Incumbent Republican Robert Leibensperger fought off a challenge for his party's nomination Tuesday for another six-year term as supervisor in Rush Township. The race was one of a handful decided Tuesday.

Leibensperger defeated challenger William Boyer, 215 to 152. There was one write-in vote. The victory almost assures Leibensperger of another term.There were also write-in votes cast in some races. The counting of write-in votes is expected to begin on Friday in the election bureau.The results of other races follow:CoaldaleIn Coaldale there was a race for the Republican nomination for council. There are four seats, four-year terms, up in the fall with five seeking the GOP nod.The winners were Claire Remington 161, Thomas D. Keerans 136, Michael J. Doerr 119, and Vincent Miller Sr., 96. Finishing out of the running was Brenda L. Hosler, with 66. There were 50 write-ins.On the Democratic side Yvonne Stoffey was unopposed and received 100 votes. There also were 68 write-in votes.There is also a two-year term on council up for election. The GOP side winner was Remington with 141 votes to Hosler's 34. There were 13 write-in votes.Francis J. Hutta was unopposed on the Democratic side and received 99 votes with 14 write-ins.Incumbent Democrat Joel Johnson received 111 unopposed votes for mayor. There were no Republicans on the ballot but there were 95 write-in votes.Schuylkill TownshipIn Schuylkill Township there is a six-year term for supervisor up for election in the fall and both parties had primary races.The Democratic winner was Frank Fabrizio defeating Dan Decindio, 75 votes to 33 with three write-ins. On the GOP side incumbent Christine Verdier easily defeated Joseph Zelinsky for the nomination, 105 to 20. There were also 73 write-in votes.In other voting Joe Yesavage received 59 votes for constable on the Democratic side while John Zubris got 131 on the GOP side.TamaquaIn Tamaqua borough there were no races.There are four four-year seats up on borough council with four Republicans on the ballot and no Democrats seeking the positions.The GOP vote totals were: Brian Connely 316, Thomas Cara 300, R. Daniel Evans 293, and Ronald Bowman 280.Republican Charles T. Rodgers received 373 unopposed votes for constable. There were no Democratic candidates.Walker TownshipThere were no races for a six-year and four-year terms for supervisor.Republican Leonard Ostergaard received 124 votes for the four-year term. Incumbent Republican Wiliam R. McMullen received 121 votes for the six-year term.West PennIn West Penn Township Republican Jack Sarge received 320 votes for constable.The county website did not list the voting for a six-year term for supervisor. Republican Tony Prudenti was the only name on the ballot, but no vote totals were posted.Blythe TownshipIn Blythe Township there was a race for the Democratic nod for supervisor, six-year term.The winner was Adam J. Nothstein, who received 55 votes, to 35 for Cynthia Borchick. There were no Republicans running.Others receiving votes were Democrat Joseph J. Leskin Jr. 72 for constable; and Keith Rokosky 67 for auditor, six-year term. There were no GOP candidates.New PhiladelphiaIn New Philadelphia there are three council seats, four-year terms, up for election in the fall. There were two Democrats and one Republican on the ballot. Mimi Shanoskie received 90 votes, and Dennis A. Faust 64 on the Demo side and Debra Smith-Sullivan 37 on the GOP ballot.Democrat John Bondura got 107 votes for constable.MiddleportIn Middleport there was a lack of candidates for two seats on council, four-year terms. Republican Elizabeth A. Boger got 18 votes. However, there were 34 write-ins on the GOP side and 54 on the Demo ballot.New RinggoldIn New Ringgold there are three, four-year term council seats up for election in the fall with Republican Elizabeth B. Fry receiving 28 votes as the only candidate. There were 21 write-ins on the GOP ballot and 18 on the Demo side.Ryan TownshipIn Ryan Township Republican incumbent Clyde Champ Holman received 157 unopposed votes for supervisor, six-year term. There were no Democrats running.Others receiving votes were Donna M. McGowan 143 for auditor, four-year term; and Linda A. Fetter 162, auditor, six-year term.Kline TownshipRepublican Carmen Cara received 153 unopposed votes for a six-year term as supervisor. There were no Democrats on the ballot.Others receiving votes were Bruce Yourechko Jr. 145 for GOP auditor, six-year term.McAdooIn McAdoo there are four seats, four-year term, up for election on council.On the Democratic side there were four candidates. The vote totals were as follow: John DeBalko 109, Marion DeBalko 108, Daniel A. Gallagher 107, and Peter P. Minneic 106. On the GOP side Edward J. Bielen Sr. received 86 unopposed votes.Mahanoy CityIn Mahanoy City there was a race for four nominations for council, four-year term, on the Democratic side.The top four finishers were Thomas R. Flamini 244, Francis P. Burke, 240, Robyn L. Sincavage 223, and John A. Pytko 191. Out of the running is Louis Huber with 167.On the GOP side two candidates will be on the ballot in the fall. Diane Rachuck received 151 votes and Douglas Litwhiler 116.Republican Douglas Litwhiler received 143 votes for constable.Delano TownshipIn Delano Township Ken Karlavage received 25 Republican votes for supervisor, six-year term. There were no Democrats running. Michele Karlavage received 23 Republican votes for auditor, six-year term.
