Carbon school board election results

Voters in Carbon County went to the polls Tuesday to cast their votes for school directors in the various school districts.

The results are as follows:Lehighton AreaThere were 10 people seeking nominations for four-year terms on both the Democratic and Republican ballots. All 10 had cross-filed and appeared on both ballots.The top five vote-getters on the Democratic side are Bryon J. Arner, 695; Wayne W. Wentz, 600; Richard R. Beltz, 577; Andrew Yenser, 545; and Marianne Dwyer, 497. There were 26 write-in votes.On the Republican side are Arner, 779; Wentz, 586; Frank Tamburri, 554; Marianne Dwyer, 544; and Yenser, 532.The Lehighton Area School District encompasses Lehighton, Parryville and Weissport boroughs and Mahoning, East Penn and Franklin townships.Jim Thorpe areaThere was no contest in the Jim Thorpe Area School District. With five four-year terms to be decided, there were five candidates, all of whom cross-filed petitions.On the Democratic side, Clement C. McGinley received 832 votes; P. Downs-Sheckler, 725; Michael J. Huber, 715; Mike Principe, 524; and Robert Schaninger, 467. There were 12 write-in votes.On the Republican side, McGinley received 554 votes; Downs-Sheckler, 512; Huber, 491; Principe, 410; and Schaninger, 375. There were 22 write-in votes.The Jim Thorpe Area School District includes the five voting districts of Jim Thorpe borough, five districts in Penn Forest Township and Kidder Township South.Palmerton areaAlthough there are five seats open for the four-year terms on the Palmerton Area School Board, there were only four candidates on the Democratic ballot and three on the Republican side. Two cross-filed.On the Democratic side, Tammy L. Recker received 456 votes; Josann M. Harry, 442; Joshua C. Smale, 433; and Sherry A. Cseh Haas, 429. There were 18 write-in votes.On the Republican side, Charles C. Gildner received 426 votes; Recker, 416; and Harry, 388. There were 18 write-in votes.The Palmerton Area School District encompasses Palmerton and Bowmanstown boroughs and Towamensing and Lower Towamensing townships.Weatherly areaIn the Weatherly Area School District there are five four-year terms up for grabs and one two-year term.The top vote-getters on the Democratic side for the four-year terms are Matthew D. vonFrisch, 218, and William Knepper, also 218; Corey Gerhard, 216; Gerard Grega, 167; and Georgeann Herling, 145.On the Republican side the top vote-getter is Gerhard with 392; vonFrisch, 363; Knepper, 341; Grega, 312; and Herling, 243.For the two-year term, vonFrisch was the top vote-getter on the Democratic side with 114 votes.Grega had the most Republican votes with 175.The Weatherly Area School District comprises Kidder North, and the boroughs of East Side and Weatherly, as well as the townships of Lausanne, Lehigh and Packer.Panther ValleyVoters in the Panther Valley School District, which consists of Nesquehoning, Lansford and Summit Hill in Carbon County, as well as Coaldale in Schuylkill County, cast ballots for school director.There were five seats, four-year terms, up for election with seven candidates on the Democratic ticket and six on the Republican ticket.The vote totals are as follows:On the Democratic side Wayne V. Gryzik, 1,001; Anthony DeMarco, 928; Joseph J. Faenza Jr., 808, Gary Porembo, 787; Renee DeMelfi, 780; Michelle Markovich, 537; and Jeffrey J. Markovich, 475.On the GOP side Gryzik, 535; Porembo, 452; DeMarco, 439; DeMelfi, 422; Michelle Markovich, 275; and Jeffrey Markovich, 262.
