Lehighton reviews bids for stadium

Four general construction contractors submitted bids on a Lehighton Area School District stadium renovation with an Easton firm coming in the lowest.

District administrators opened the bids Monday afternoon.Plans include replacing the athletic grass field, located between the administration building and high school on Indian Lane, with artificial turf field inside the existing track; constructing a visitor and home grandstand, press box, 62-foot by 260-foot field house, 42-foot by 74-foot restroom/maintenance building, a 119-vehicle paved parking lot and a 100-vehicle grass overflow lot; and installing a new lighting system for the field and paved parking areas.CMG of Easton was the low base bidder at $5.229 million for general construction.Contractors bid on a number of alternates including the track resurfacing, end zone lettering and construction of a freestanding southwest stairwell.CMG's bid for track resurfacing adds $200 to the project. It also bid $17,000 for end zone lettering and $45,000 for the stairs.The next closest base bid was Bracy Contracting, of Allentown, at $5.49 million. Bracy bid $197,800 for the track resurfacing, $16,800 for the end zone lettering, and $49,800 for the stairs.Boyle Construction, of Allentown, posted a base bid of $5.498 million, $82,700 for the track resurfacing, $18,000 for end zone lettering and $42,900 for the stairs.Lobar Inc., of Dillsburg, bid $6 million on the base contract.The district also solicited bids for electrical and mechanical contracts.Pagoda Electrical Inc., of Reading, was the lowest electrical contractor to bid at $582,748.Master Mechanical, of McAdoo, bid $452,548 on the mechanical contract.The district will review all the documents submitted Monday before deciding whether to award any of the bids.
