Walnutport borough will host an "e-cycling" event from 4 to 7 p.m. Wednesday at the borough hall on Lincoln Avenue.
Old electronics ranging from desktop to laptop computers, car batteries and dishwashers can be dropped off without charge for recycling. There will be a $30 fee for all tube televisions or $5 for any plasma/LCD screens to be recycled.Along with this event the borough discussed the new 96-gallon recycling totes that will be delivered to residents in June.Any resident who does not wish to use the new, larger totes may keep the old 5-gallon totes with a limit of one per residential household.Rounding out the meeting was the issue of road repair. Road sealing has already begun in parts of Walnutport. The cost for repair of the 145 block of Williams Avenue is being calculated currently.During the repair the avenue will be restricted to one lane of traffic. The 400 block of South Canal Street will also be added to the repair list."The 400 block of South Canal needs to be a priority this summer," Councilman Jason Newhard said.Canal Street suffered harsh winter damage this year with tree roots and ground water settling causing large sink holes to form. The next Walnutport Borough Council meeting will be held at 7 p.m. June 11, in the borough hall. For a complete list of eligible electronic items, locations, and dates for e-cycle events visit
