Five are placed in probation program
Five first-time offenders in the criminal justice system were placed in Carbon County's Accelerated Rehabilitation Disposition probation program on Thursday by Judge Steven R. Serfass.
If a person successfully completes all conditions of the program their record is wiped clean. However, if they fail to complete it, or are revoked from it, then they would face trial on all pending charges. A person does not admit guilt in entering the program.All were placed for a year:Timothy Ryan Carroll, 26, of Norristown, was placed on a charge of possession of marijuana. He was arrested on Aug. 30, 2014, in the 300 block of Mauch Chunk Street (Route 209) by Mahoning Township police.He was assessed $450 for the cost of the program and ordered to get a drug and alcohol evaluation and follow any recommendation for treatment and render 50 hours of community service.Richard Aaron Dellecker, 41, of Lehighton, was placed on a driving under the influence charge. He was arrested on Dec. 14, 2014, by Lehighton police along the Sgt. Stanley Hoffman Boulevard. A test showed the presence of a controlled substance.He was assessed $600 and ordered to render 50 hours of community service and have his license suspended for 60 days.Jacob William Eckley, 22, of Lehighton, was placed on a DUI charge. He was arrested on Dec. 3, 2014, by state police at Lehighton along Canal Street in Weissport. A test showed the presence of a controlled substance.He was assessed $600 and ordered to render 50 hours of community service and have his license suspended for 60 days.Tyler Anthony Sellers, 19, of Slatedale, was placed on a DUI charge. He was arrested on July 31, 2014, by state police along Maury Road in Penn Forest Township. A test showed the presence of a controlled substance.He was assessed $600 and ordered to render 50 hours of community service and license suspended for 90 days.Sean Patrick Sweeney, 23, of Jim Thorpe, was placed on a charge of possession of marijuana. He was arrested by Mahoning Township police for an incident on Aug. 19, 2014, following a vehicle stop. He was a passenger in the vehicle.He was assessed $650 and ordered to render 50 hours of community service and get a D&A evaluation.Each defendant must also pay court costs of about $1,000 and pay a $50 per month supervision fee.
