Two major races highlighted the Primary Election ballot, one on the county level and the other involving the Panther Valley area's district justice position.

The county race is for the Republican nomination for the office of Register of Wills, where Michael M. Brunda of Lansford faced off with John L. Bruno Jr. of Penn Forest Township.The district justice race featured contested Republican and Democratic contests between incumbent Irene M. Hudasky of Lansford and Robert G. Heffelfinger of Summit Hill.The Democrats had 13,483 eligible voters, compared to 10,403 registered Republicans.
