Lehighton Rotary Essay Contest winners honored

Lehighton Rotary Club recognized the top three Rotary Essay Contest winners from Lehighton Area High School at a special dinner held in the students' honor on Monday evening at Beacon 443 Diner/Restaurant.

Christina Drofich, Abigail Barton and Susan Cook took home first-, second- and third-place honors respectively.All students are finishing their junior year at Lehighton.In 250 to 300 words, high school juniors are asked to write about the theme "Service Above Self (Rotary International Motto) What It Means to Me.""Locally, the essay contest enjoyed success through the cooperation of Lehighton Area School District administration and faculty," said Michael Heery, Lehighton Rotary Club president.Drofich also tied for first place in the 2015 Rotary District 7410 Essay Contest. District Governor-Elect and Lehighton Rotarian Barbara Huffman de Belon congratulated Drofich on her achievement at an award presentation during the recent Rotary District 7410 Conference at Skytop Lodge in the Poconos.Rotary International is the world's first service club organization, with more than 1.2 million members in 33,000 clubs worldwide. Locally, Lehighton Rotary Club organized in 1921.
