Palmerton area races
There are no contested races on the municipal and school district levels in the Palmerton area for the primary election.
Voting will take place from 7 a.m. to 8 p.m. on Tuesday.Seats are up in the boroughs of Bowmanstown and Palmerton, the townships of Towamensing and Lower Towamensing and on the school's district's board of education. However, none of those seeking the offices has opposition.Palmerton school boardIn the school district race, the voters are scheduled to elect five people to four-year terms. There are only four names that appear on the Democratic ballot, and only three Republican candidates.Seeking the Democratic nominations are Josann M. Harry, Tammy L. Recker, Sherry A. Cseh Haas and Joshua C. Smale.Harry and Recker are cross-filed, meaning they will also appear as GOP candidates, and are joined by Charles C. Gildner.The school district encompasses Palmerton and Bowmanstown boroughs and Towamensing and Lower Towamensing townships.Palmerton BoroughIn the borough's balloting, voters will elect three members to council for four-year terms, as well as a constable for six years.Two Democrats, Holly F. Sell Hausman and Jeremy Barbosa, are running on that ballot, while Repulblican Terry Costenbader is the lone candidate within his party.Running for constable is Democrat Gavin Oplinger.Bowmanstown BoroughThe situation in Bowmanstown is similar to that in Palmerton, as only three people are running for the three four-year terms on borough council that are up for grabs.Democrat Kara Scott is the lone candidate within her party for the council nomination, while on the Republican side are Pamela J. Leiby and Norman A. Engle Jr.The lone candidate for the six-year term as constable is Republican Salvatore Lizzio.Lower Towamensing TownshipWhile there is no contest in the primary election for a six-year term on the board of supervisors in Lower Towamensing, there will be a race in November.That's because one Democrat and one Republican are unopposed in seeking their parties' nominations and they will square off in the general election. They are Democrat Jesse Mendez and Republican Jay Mullikin.The township voters will also elect a constable for a six-year term. The only candidate is Democrat Lamar A. Fronheiser.Two auditors' positions, one for six years and the other for two years, are also scheduled to be filled by the electorate. There are no candidates for either post.Towamensing TownshipThere is only one candidate on the Towamensing Township ballot this year. He is Republican Thomas A. Newman, who is running unopposed for the six-year term on the board of supervisors.There are no candidates on either ballot for the six-year term as an auditor, a four-year term as auditor and a six-year term as constable.
