New boiler system to cost $220K

It could cost Northern Lehigh School District nearly $220,000 to replace the boiler system and closed circuit cooling tower at Peters Elementary.

Three companies submitted bids to the district on Thursday, with Elliott-Lewis Corporation, of Nazareth, turning in the apparent low bid of $218,790.That was $117,210 less than the next lowest bid turned in by JBM Mechanical Inc. of Nazareth ($336,000), and $121,210 less than Worth and Company Inc. of, Bucks County ($340,000).The work will consist of the replacement of the existing boilers and cooling tower systems with new, as well as modifications to the associated piping, breeching, ATC and electrical systems.Greg Derr, director of support services and transportation, previously said the two boilers and the cooling tower are over 20 years old and at the end of their life cycle.A project bid award will likely be made when the school board meets tonight at 7:30.The project will be paid from out of the 2015-16 maintenance repair budget.
