Jim Thorpe area seats to be decided May 19
There is only one nomination among municipalities in the Jim Thorpe area to be decided in the May 19 Primary Election, that being for Democratic nominations for three seats open on the Jim Thorpe Borough Council. Meanwhile, voters in Kidder Township North, which is part of the Weatherly Area School District, have choices to make on both the Democratic and Republican ballots for two different term lengths on the school board.
Here is the way ballots will look in municipalities in the Jim Thorpe area:Jim Thorpe BoroughThere are three four-year terms on the borough council to be decided by the Jim Thorpe voters.Four Democrats and no Republicans are seeking the three nominations.The candidates are Jay T. Miller, John T. McGuire, Betsy Ahner and Kyle J. Sheckler.Borough voters are also scheduled to elect a constable this year although there are no candidates on either ballot for the six-year term.Jim ThorpeSchool BoardThere are five four-year terms to be decided by voters in the school district, which includes the five voting districts of Jim Thorpe Borough, five districts in Penn Forest Township and Kidder Township South.No contests exist, since there are five candidates who have cross-filed petitions to have their names appear on both ballots. They include Michael J. Huber, Mike Principe, Pearl A. Downs-Sheckler, Clement C. McGinley and Robert Schaninger.Penn Forest TownshipThere are also no contests to be decided in Penn Forest Township, where voters will elect two people to serve six-year terms on the board of supervisors. There is only one Democratic candidate and one Republican candidate. Unopposed in seeking their party's nominations are Democrat Warren Reiner and Republican Roger L. Meckes.No one is running for three other positions on the ballot, including a six-year term as constable and two auditor's positions, one for six years and the other for two years.Kidder TownshipOnly two candidates are running for two six-year terms on the Kidder Township board of supervisors. They include Republicans Larry Polansky and Barbara Smith-Franzosa. There are no Democratic candidates.Republican Curtis A. Ashner is running unopposed for a six-year term as constable.There are also three auditor's positions to be filled, for two-, four- and six-year terms, although there are no candidates.WeatherlySchool BoardVoters in Kidder North will participate in the at-large balloting for terms on the Weatherly Area School District Board of Education. There are five four-year and one two-year terms to be decided.For the four-year terms, seven persons are seeking both Democratic and Republican nominations. On both ballots are Bonita Lee Barbush, Gerard Grega, Corey Gerhard, Matthew D. vonFrisch, Chad M. Obert, William Knepper and Georgeann Herling.For the two-year term, Obert, Barbush, Grega and vonFrisch are running on both ballots for one nomination that is up for grabs.Besides Kidder North, the district also comprises the boroughs of East Side and Weatherly and the townships of Lausanne, Lehigh, Packer.
