Mahoning Township police reported the arrest of two females for retail theft charges.
On April 30, at 3:19 p.m. a retail theft was reported at the Walmart store in the township with loss prevention reporting two females had loaded merchandise into a cart and left the store with the items, failing to purchase them.One of the females was stopped but the second did not stop. The female who was stopped was identified as Alexandra Casares, 23, of 302 Gypsy Hill Gardens, Lehighton. The second female was identified as Janine Ringlaben, 24, same address. She had fled to a vehicle they had both come in to the store.Ringlaben changed her shirt, hair style and removed a young child from the car. The child had been left in the vehicle with a third person.Both females admitted they were heroin users and were stealing the items to sell for heroin. The items were valued at $587.21 and included a television, blender, surround sound system and a child-sized flotation device.Both were arraigned on charges of retail theft and criminal conspiracy-retail theft.Casares' charges are misdemeanors with bail set at $5,000 straight.Ringlaben's charges are felonies as a result of prior convictions for retail theft with bail set at $10,000 straight.The two were committed to the Carbon County Correctional Facility in Nesquehoning, unable to post the bail.The child was turned over to a family member.
