Concourse Club marks 100 years

The Concourse Club of Palmerton will celebrate its 100th anniversary with a dinner at Blue Mountain Resort this evening.

The tradition of an annual spring celebration began in 1923.To commemorate the club's anniversary, members will be presented with a limited-edition pin that features a likeness of the bandstand in the Palmerton Borough Park.As part of the celebration, the club is honoring members with 50 or more years of consecutive membership.During the event, club members will also hear a special announcement about the inaugural Movie in the Park on Saturday, June 20."The Concourse Club is known for giving back to the community and especially for its improvements to the Palmerton Borough Park. The Movie in the Park allows the club the opportunity to take advantage of those improvements and expand our awareness among the public," said Snell Kern.Since 1989, club-led improvements to the borough park total $255,124. Past projects include the renovation of the bandstand and its landscaping, benches, and pathways; adding vintage lights, a security camera, and tree plantings; and the annual Summer Concerts in the Park.The Concourse Club of Palmerton has been serving the Palmerton area since 1915. The organization is made up of women who are dedicated to public service.The club meets from October through May on the first Thursday of the month.
