St. Luke's-Miners awarded $199,820 outreach grant

U.S. Rep. Matt Cartwright announced that the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services has awarded a grant in the amount of $199,820 to the St. Luke's Hospital-Miners Campus in Coaldale.

The funds have been awarded through the Rural Health Care Services Outreach program. The program seeks to expand health care delivery in rural areas."It is often an incredible challenge to expand access to high-quality health care services in rural areas," Cartwright said."This funding will enable St. Luke's-Miners Campus to expand its service capacity and increase access to comprehensive primary health care services for residents of the surrounding area."Funding may be used to conduct health screenings, health fairs, education and training, and any other health service delivery activity that does not involve inpatient care.The community being served must be involved in the development and ongoing operations of the program to appropriately address the needs of the population.St. Luke's Hospital-Miners Campus is a fully accredited, not-for-profit, 45-bed acute care hospitalproviding health care services to more than 11,000 people annually in Schuylkill, Carbon and surrounding areas.
