Arbor Day tree planting held in Summit Hill

In honor of Arbor Day, the Summit Hill Shade Tree Commission recently planted four memorial trees in Memorial Park.

In the past 15 years, approximately 465 trees have been planted through the commission.A presentation was made by Frank Snyder, service forester for the Department of Community and Natural Resources.The award offered local and national attention to Summit Hill. It is the 10th year that the honor has been received.The Shade Tree Commission is an outgrowth of the Summit Hill Historical Society, which has been restoring the historic beauty of the borough. The Arbor Day Memorial Tree program is a result of its efforts.This year, the memorial trees were in honor of Dr. Charles Ruch, Dr. James Forrest and Dr. William Bonner. They were sponsored by the historical society. One tree, in honor of the Rev. Donald and Marjorie Walck, was sponsored by Sheralee Wilson.
