Seven defendants enter guilty pleas in DUI cases

A total of seven defendants charged with driving under the influence and related charges entered guilty pleas in Carbon County court on Monday.

President Judge Roger N. Nanovic II accepted the pleas from the following defendants.Kristin Dianne Mikulski, 39, of Allentown, was arrested on May 27, 2014, by Palmerton police along Delaware Avenue. A test showed the presence of a controlled substance.Nanovic sentenced her to serve 72 hours to six months in jail, a fine of $1,000, one-year license suspension, and she must enter an outpatient counseling program.It was noted she is currently serving a 30-day to six-month term in Lehigh County's Intermediate Punishment Program on another DUI charge.She begins the jail term at 9 p.m. May 15.Monica Bessie Russup, 46, of Tamaqua, was arrested on Aug. 30, 2014, along Route 248 in Parryville by state police at Lehighton. A test showed the presence of a controlled substance.She is currently an inmate in the Schuylkill County prison on drug charges.Nanovic deferred sentencing so Russup could obtain a drug and alcohol evaluation.Jerome Franklin Strohl, 40, of Lehighton, was arrested on Dec. 26, 2014, along Bridge Street in Lehighton by state police Lehighton during a checkpoint operation. A test showed the presence of a controlled substance.Sentencing was deferred so Strohl could obtain a comprehensive drug evaluation.Daryl Jay Behler, 53, of Lehighton, was arrested on March 18, 2014, by state police at Lehighton along Fairview Street in Franklin Township. A test showed the presence of a controlled substance.Sentencing was deferred so he could obtain a D&A evaluation.Leo Thomas Fochtman, 26, of Lehighton, was arrested on March 7, 2013, along Delaware Avenue in Palmerton by state police at Lehighton. A test showed the presence of a controlled substance.Nanovic sentenced him to serve 72 hours to six months in jail, a fine of $1,000, and one-year license suspension.He begins the jail term on May 1 at 5 p.m.Kevin Martin Newton, 37, of Emmaus, was arrested on March 28, 2013, along Route 248 in Bowmanstown by state police at Lehighton. A test showed the presence of a controlled substance.He was previously placed in the county's Accelerated Rehabilitation Disposition probation program but was revoked for violating the conditions.Nanovic sentenced him to serve 72 hours to six months in jail, a fine of $1,000, and one-year license suspension. He began the jail term at 9 a.m. today.Robert E. Keister, 26, of McAdoo, was arrested on Feb. 22, 2013, along Tamaqua Street by Beaver Meadows police. A test showed 0.10 BAC.Sentencing was deferred so Keister could get a D&A evaluation and also apply for the county's IPP.Each defendant sentenced must also pay court costs of about $1,000, and a $50 per month supervision fee while on probation or parole.
