Allentown doctor who attacked son-in-law in Ohio gets early release

CLEVELAND (AP) - A Pennsylvania anesthesiologist imprisoned in Ohio for attacking his daughter's estranged husband with a clawed pry bar has apologized in court and been granted early release.

The Northeast Ohio Media Group (http://bit.ly/1IijuXo ) reports 68-year-old Georges Bensimhon (ben-SEE'-mohn) of Allentown, Pennsylvania, was freed Monday after serving 10 months of his three-year sentence for felonious assault. Prosecutors objected to his release.

He'll be on probation. He apologized to the victim and the judge, saying he regrets his actions.

Police arrested Bensimhon shortly after the attack outside a suburban Cleveland home in September 2013. His son-in-law had fought back and overpowered him despite a deep gash to the head.

Prosecutors dropped an attempted aggravated murder charge and other counts against Bensimhon in a plea deal. His attorney said he lost his medical licenses.
