For the third time in four years, a group of elementary students in the Palmerton School District have once again earned top billing in a scholastic competition.
Fresh off their first-place showing in the 2015 Sixth Sense Competition held last week at Panther Valley High School, members of the team appeared before the school board on Tuesday.Accompanied by their advisers, the students brought with them a shiny, new trophy the team won for its efforts.Team members were Caitlin Smith, Corlan Wood, Maddy Serio, Dylan Bollinger, Priya Bardassano and Gina Laviolette.The competition included teams from Palmerton, Panther Valley, Northern Lehigh, Lehighton, Jim Thorpe, Tamaqua, Pleasant Valley and Northwestern Lehigh school districts.Lehighton finished as the runner-up, followed by Jim Thorpe in third, and Panther Valley in fourth.Board president Tammy Recker congratulated the students."You guys did an awesome job," Recker said.School Principal Mary Brumbach lauded the team as well.Brumbach said the team "has been so cohesive and developed such a camaraderie."
