Man jailed on multiple counts

A Carbon County man was jailed on Saturday on multiple criminal counts, including burglary, following a break-in at a county business.

State police at Hazleton identified the suspect as Israel Lozada, 39, of Beaver Meadows.According to troopers on Saturday morning a newspaper delivery person found the glass doors to J&N Mini Mart, located at 120 Broad St. in Beaver Meadows, smashed. Troopers arrived on scene and viewed video surveillance, which showed a male suspect entering the store at 2:24 a.m. wearing a ski mask and a bomber jacket. The suspect jumped over the counter, grabbed the cash register drawer and left the store with it and the money inside.The surveillance video also showed a male suspect entered the store again at 3:38 a.m., wearing a long-sleeve red shirt with a dark-colored short-sleeve shirt over it and with something partially covering his face. It shows the male stealing lottery tickets and packs of cigarettes. A cellphone was found at the scene.Troopers said a suspect was determined by looking in the phone. The victim, store owner Jihad Abdulrahman, 44, of Hazleton, knew the suspect and where he lived.Troopers responded to the suspect's residence and were let inside. Troopers found Lozada in his bedroom. Evidence linking Lozada to the scene were in plain view on the bedroom floor. A vehicle was located at the residence. There was evidence inside the vehicle in plain view linked to the crime scene. The residence and vehicle was secured by troopers until a search warrant was obtained.Recovered inside the residence was evidence linking Lozada to the crime scene including lottery tickets and packs of cigarettes. Also found in the search was drug paraphernalia, a handgun and money.Lozada was charged with burglary and related offenses, and also person not to possess firearms, firearms not to be carried without a license, and possession of drug paraphernalia.He was arraigned by on-call District Judge Edward Lewis of Jim Thorpe and committed to the county prison in Nesquehoning in lieu of $100,000 straight cash bail.
