Palmerton announces kindergarten registration
Palmerton Area School District announces that kindergarten registration for the 2015-2016 school year will be held from May 4 through May 6.
All kindergarten registrations will take place in the district offices, which are located on the third floor of Parkside Education Center, 680 Fourth St. in Palmerton.To facilitate the registration process, parents are asked to schedule an appointment to register their child by calling Kimberly Ottinger at 610-826-7101 ext. 5023.Appointment times will be scheduled from 8:30 to 11:00 a.m. and 12:30 to 2:45 p.m. May 4 through May 6.Children who will be 5 years of age on or before Sept. 1, 2015, are eligible for kindergarten for the 2015-2016 school year, according to school district policy.There are several forms that they will need to complete and/or provide in order to register their child for school.They may obtain these forms before registration on the district's website
www.palmerton.org., or they may stop by the district office to pick up a registration packet.Those who prefer may complete all of the necessary paperwork at their registration appointment.However, they should be aware that a state-issued birth certificate or other acceptable proof of age and name is required for their child to be registered.If these papers are not available at the time of registration, their child should still be registered, and the documents must be provided, before their child will be admitted to school in August.In addition, parent photo ID, as well as another proof of residency, is required at the time of registration.State law requires that all children entering school for the first time must have written proof of the following immunizations: four doses of tetanus, one dose must have been administered on or after the child's 4th birthday; four doses of diphtheria, one dose must have been administered on or after the child's fourth birthday; three doses of polio; two doses of measles; two doses of mumps; one dose of rubella (German measles); three doses of hepatitis B; and two doses of varicella (chickenpox), or a record of having had chickenpox.Parents/guardians are advised to bring the necessary immunization records to their registration appointment.Proof of immunizations must be provided before their child will be admitted to school.Parents/guardians are asked to bring their child with them to registration. While they are completing the registration process, their child will have a vision screening with the district's school nurse.In addition, a member of the school staff will work with their child and do a kindergarten readiness assessment.Call 610-826-7101, ext. 5023, as soon as possible to schedule an appointment.
