Carbon County is looking to provide more security at one of its buildings.
On Thursday the board of commissioners voted to ratify an application for a $12,500 Pennsylvania Counties Risk Pool Loss Prevention matching grant.It will be used for beefing up security at the courthouse annex, including purchasing and installing a security door with look support and electric strike at the third floor entrance; four security cameras for the building; a speaker system for the new security door in the commissioners' office; and a Dell server and Ethernet switch.The move comes on the recommendation by the county safety committee.In other matters, the county commissioners acted on the following items:• Approve a lease extension with Robert E. Brown of Jim Thorpe for operation of the camp store concession at Mauch Chunk Lake Park. The agreement is in effect until March 31, 2016.• Approve a lease agreement with Brown for operation of the food and refreshment concession stand at Mauch Chunk Lake Park. The term of the lease runs from Jan. 1, to Dec. 31, 2016 and there is an annual rental payment of $5,000 plus $80 per month for electric service May through September.• Adopt a resolution honoring Stephanie H. Augustine of Palmerton Girl Scout Troop 33401 on reaching her Gold Award.• Approve an agreement with The Entertainment Connection of Summit Hill to provide entertainment for the 2015 Senior Games banquet. The cost is $350.• Approve the changes of status for Desirae A. Berger and Jonathan J. Forsyth, both of Nesquehoning, from part-time corrections officers/Teamsters, to corrections officers at the prison, effective April 27.
