Schuylkill County gets all its ducks in a row

Everything's just ducky in Schuylkill County.

April is Duck Month in the county, and it really is all it's quacked up to be.The highlight of the month will be the 27th annual Rubber Ducky Race down Mill Creek in St. Clair on April 26.Festivities begin at noon, and the race starts at 3:32 p.m. The day will include live entertainment, food, music, children's activities, vendors and prizes.Traditionally, people have flocked to ante up some bread for the thousands of rubber ducks available for "adoption."Race tickets are $5.Proceeds from the race will benefit Avenues, which provides services and programs for people with developmental or acquired disabilities.Festivities begin at noon, and the race starts at 3:32 p.m.The county didn't just wing it with the recognition. Commissioners on Wednesday issued a proclamation kicking off the month, accompanied by the guest of honor, a 6-foot-tall duck."We commend Avenues and all the county volunteers who make this event successful," the proclamation states. "We urge all citizens of Schuylkill County who can to consider adopting a duck in order to contribute to the worthy cause."On hand for the proclamation were Avenues marketing director Corey Buletza and executive director Peter Keitsock.For more information about the duck race, call 570-622-7920.
