Northern Lehigh approves garbage contract

Northern Lehigh School District has a new five-year garbage pact in place.

That's after the school board on a unanimous vote Monday approved the agreement with J.P. Mascaro and Sons for trash removal and recycling collection, beginning July 1, at a cost of $119,092.The cost per year is: 2015-16, ($22,653); 2016-17, ($23,224); 2017-18, ($23,805); 2018-19, ($24,400); and 2019-20, ($25,010).Other businessIn other business, the board:• Approved Sarah Gordon as an elementary substitute teacher for the 2014-15 school year.• Approved Rosetta Strohl as a substitute cafeteria worker for the 2014-15 school year.• Granted permission to Suzanne Mengel to attend the Positive Behavioral Interventions and Supports Implementers' Forum May 27-28 in Hershey, with the cost of registration, $75; and lodging, $154; for a total cost of about $229, to be paid from the Slatington Elementary School's staff professional development budget.• Approved Kayla Perkowski as a game worker for the 2014-15 school year. Game workers consist of ticket sellers and takers, game announcers, scoreboard operators, timers, field judges, and scorekeepers.• Granted permission for the Delaware & Lehigh National Heritage Corridor to use the high school gym and district's parking lot facilities on Nov. 1, 2015, for the D&L Heritage Marathon and Half Marathon. They anticipate participants will begin arriving by 6 a.m., and the event will conclude around 4 p.m.
