Northern Lehigh roof work may cost $230K

Northern Lehigh School District will have to shell out nearly $230,000 to resurface a portion of a roof at one of its elementary buildings.

By a unanimous measure, the school board on Monday agreed to allow administration to enter into an agreement with Tremco Roofing to resurface the west wing roof at Peters Elementary at a cost of $229,987, to be paid from the district's capital projects account.The roofing system comes with a 20-year warranty.Greg Derr, director of support services, previously said the existing roof's warranty ran out one year ago.Derr said there were areas of delamination, and that the roof coating is peeling up in spots.Also on Monday, Assistant Superintendent Karen Nicholas discussed technology improvements in the district.Nicholas specifically mentioned the Chromebooks, laptops that run on Google's Chrome operating system, used by the district's elementary students."I see a very collaborative classroom," Nicholas said. "I see students working together."In other business, the board:• Agreed to allow administration to enter into an agreement with Aceton Networks for replacement of districtwide phone equipment at a cost of $85,681 to be paid from replacement equipment fund balance.• Awarded the district plow truck bid to Bobby Gerhart's Truck World at a cost of $46,500, to be paid from the district's capital projects account.
