Stroudsburg man faces DUI counts

A case against a Monroe County man arrested for driving under the influence is headed for Monroe County Court.

Steven Santiago, 21, of Stroudsburg, was scheduled to have a preliminary hearing March 27 before District Judge Colleen Mancuso of Brodheadsville.Instead, Santiago waived his right to the hearing.Santiago faces charges of two counts of DUI, along with one count of violating a stop sign.He is free in lieu of $5,000 unsecured bail.According to the affidavit filed by trooper Joseph Urban of the state police at Fern Ridge:At 2:40 a.m. Dec. 21, trooper Jeffrey Kreidler and Urban were traveling north on Route 715 when Urban saw a white van pass them traveling south.After the van passed, Urban saw it in his side mirror veer onto the double yellow line.Urban turned his patrol unit around to follow the van, which turned onto Anglemire Drive.Once on Anglemire Drive, Urban saw the van drive through the stop sign at the intersection of Anglemire Drive and Appenzell Terrace without braking.Urban activated the emergency lights to initiate a traffic stop, which took place on the east shoulder of Anglemire Drive, at which time Urban identified the vehicle as a Toyota Sienna.Urban approached the vehicle and made contact with the driver, Santiago. He detected a strong odor of an alcoholic beverage emanating from the vehicle.Due to indicators of impairment in a field sobriety test and the result of the preliminary breath test, Urban placed Santiago under arrest for driving under the influence of alcohol.A blood test showed Santiago had a blood-alcohol content of 0.102 percent.
