Tamaqua domestic leads to arrests

A domestic incident in Tamaqua on March 28 resulted in charges for both parties.

Police were dispatched to 326 W. Broad St. at 2:30 a.m. for a domestic in progress. At the scene they found David Becker, 58, waiting outside. He was bleeding from a cut on his head, which he said he thought came from an ashtray thrown by Lisa Miller, 52, same address.According to Becker the couple had been out at a bar, enjoying a few drinks. When they came back to the apartment they began arguing when Miller accused him of stealing $10,000 in cash from her purse. He went to the bedroom, turned off the light and attempted to go to sleep. That's when he was hit in the head by what he thought was an ashtray.Miller agreed the couple had been arguing over money she claimed was stolen. She denied hitting Becker. The officer noticed a fresh cut on her arm, along with several healing bruises. She denied that they were caused by Becker, saying she "bruised easy due to a medical condition."She repeatedly said the argument didn't turn physical then explained that Becker's head injury may have been caused by items that were being thrown around in the bedroom, but she couldn't be sure because it was dark.An ashtray found in the bedroom was collected as evidence.Becker was taken to St. Luke's Miners Hospital, Coaldale, for treatment and given a citation for harassment. When told she was being arrested for domestic abuse, Miller needed a few minutes to gather her purse and retrieve a large bank envelope from the living room. She said she would need the money inside for bail. She denied it was the money from the argument.Miller was arraigned before duty District Judge James Riley, of Pottsville, on charges of simple assault and harassment. Bail was set at $10,000 percentage, which she was able to post thanks to the envelope she removed from her apartment. The judge stipulated that she would be unable to return to Becker's apartment, so she was given a ride to the Pines Motel in Rush Township.
