Radios distributed to area fire companies

Schuylkill County commissioners on Wednesday approved the third round of fire company radio distributions.

The county in December bought $5 million worth of radios for all 110 fire companies in the county. Commissioners bought the 1,140 mobile and portable radios through a state COSTARS contract with Motorola Solutions.They are being distributed in eight groups. Firefighters learn how to use the radios and must sign an agreement with the county before getting the equipment.The latest round of radios goes to 27 companies: American Fire Company, Ashland; the Auburn Fire Department; Continental Fire Company, Gilberton; Cressona No. 1 Fire Company; Deer Lake Fire Department; Englewood Fire Company; Fountain Springs Fire Company; Friedensburg Fire Company; Girard Hose Company, Girardville; Goodwill Fire Company, Cressona; Goodwill Fire Company, Frackville; Gordon Fire Department; HH&L Fire Company, Pine Grove; Landingville Fire Department; Lavelle Fire Company; Liberty Fire Company, Schuylkill Haven; Mahanoy Plane Fire Company; New Ringgold Fire Department; North End Fire Company, Pine Grove; Orwigsburg Fire Department; Rainbow Fire Company, Schuylkill Haven; Rangers Fire Company, Girardville; Ravine Fire Company; Schuylkill Hose Fire Company, Schuylkill Haven; Suedburg Fire Company; Summit Station Fire Company; and Washington Fire Company, Ashland.
