Palmerton man charged in purse snatching

A Palmerton man faces multiple charges including robbery, criminal trespass and burglary after a purse snatching Friday afternoon along Delaware Avenue in the borough.

Anthony P. Borrelli, 28, called the incident, “the worst thing he's ever done,” according to an affidavit of probable cause filed by Palmerton Det. Kevin Buck.Police were dispatched to the area of Fourth Street and Avenue A around 12:30 p.m.Two men said they had witnessed a man wearing a black and white jacket take a woman's purse and flee the scene.Several other witnesses said Borrelli went into a residence in the 300 block of Lehigh Avenue and locked all the doors.According to Buck, Borrelli kicked in a partition separating the home with a neighboring residence, went into the master bedroom, changed into clothes from the tenant's wardrobe, and went out the rear sliding door of the neighboring residence, where he spoke with a Palmerton officer.Witnesses later identified Borrelli as the person they saw go in the Lehigh Avenue home and Borrelli was arrested at the Delaware Apartments.At the police department, while the officers were completing paperwork, Borrelli said police had “all the evidence you need. Is there any way we can speed this up so I can go to jail?”The purse was later recovered in the area of the railroad tracks, according to Buck.Borrelli was arraigned Friday and bail was set at $50,000 cash.He also faces charges of theft by unlawful taking, receiving stolen property and criminal mischief.A preliminary hearing is scheduled before Magisterial District Judge William Kissner on April 8 at 10 a.m.
