St. Joseph Roman Catholic Church in Summit Hill is following Christ's teachings and feeding the hungry.
Over the past two weeks, the church hosted a food drive collection in honor of the parish's saint's feast day, which was March 19.The Rev. James Burdess, pastor of St. Joseph's, said most Italian-American families celebrate St. Joseph's Day by hosting a table of bounty to show their gratitude to God. To keep with tradition, the church decided to share its bounty and help the town's families who have fallen on hard times.Nonperishable and canned food items were collected during the March 14, 15, 21 and 22 Masses."This is the second year we have done this and I think there was more collected than last year," Burdess said. "Thank you to all who supported us and the Summit Hill Food Pantry through this collection."Following the Masses, volunteers from the church and members of the food pantry boxed up the items and took them to theSummit Hill Food Pantry, where it will now be distributed to the families of the community that utilize the pantry.
