A local community improvement group is spearheading an anti-bullying day at Panther Valley middle and high schools.
Panther Valley parent Andrea Davis's Facebook group, Save Our Bubble, has joined with the schools to give students a positive start to their day on Tuesday. The four towns that make up the PantherValley Nesquehoning, Summit Hill, Lansford and Coaldale are collectively referred to as "thebubble."The students will be cheered by cheerleaders as they arrive at school. Once inside, they'll find sticky notes with positive messages, including "You are beautiful" and "Have a great day" on their lockers. Some of the notes will be marked, and students with those notes will win small prizes during the day.Save Our Bubble members will meet at 6 p.m. Monday at the Hilltop Community Center next to the Diligence Fire Company at 114 W. Ludlow St. to finalize plans.Davis, whose teenage daughter was recently robbed at gunpoint in Nesquehoning, said the day is meant to encourage students to be kind to one another."Cyberbullying is getting pretty bad lately," she said. She hopes to do "act of kindness" days once a month or so.
