Tamaqua Borough Council is debating holding landlords responsible for reporting a list of property renters to the borough.

The proposed ordinance would hold landlords, who don't provide such lists, responsible for their tenants' unpaid municipal debts, such as water/sewer and trash bills. It would be a companion piece to the borough's current moving permit process. Landlords who provide the borough with a list of their renters would not be affected.Council members are divided on the issue.
