5 injured in crash after driver runs red light

A Schuylkill County driver ran a steady red light and crashed into a van of a county nursing home causing minor injuries to five persons.

State police at Schuylkill Haven said the crash occurred at 2:28 p.m. on Monday at the intersection of routes 61 and 443 in North Manheim Township.Troopers said Ruby L. Kirkland, 45, of Pottsville, driving a 2005 Nissan Altima, ran a red light at the intersection. As she entered the intersection her Nissan was struck by a 2007 Ford E350 van driven by Katherine L. Hinkle, 31, of Pottsville. The van is owned by Seton Manor nursing facility of Orwigsburg and had no passengers.Kirkland and her passengers Patti J. Sikora, 44, Michael A. Kanger, 40, and Elizabeth D. Kanger, 66, all of Pottsville; and Hinkle, also of Pottsville, were all transported to the Schuylkill Medical Center-S. Jackson St., Pottsville. Both vehicles had to be towed.Troopers said Kirkland was cited for the crash.
