Cleanup continues from a major train derailment in Weissport which involved 18 cars of a 44-car freight train. The train was being operated by the Central Railroad of New Jersey. It jumped the tracks in Weissport, beneath the Route 209 bridge, causing a massive pileup of cars and freight.

The jumble of wreckage spilled off the banks of the right-of-way, blocking the tow path of the Lehigh Canal. A utility pole was knocked over and one of the box cars smashed into a concrete bridge pier.
