Students perform at Carbon band concert

Over 100 of the top musicians from six area high schools put their talent on display Thursday night at Lehighton High School during the 55th annual Carbon County Band Concert.

The Carbon County Music Educator's Association presented the concert."The professionalism demonstrated by these students is a credit to their families, schools and directors," said host director Bryan Buffington of Lehighton High School.Participating high schools were Jim Thorpe, Palmerton, Panther Valley, Pleasant Valley, Lehighton and Weatherly.Directors were Eric Flowers, Jim Thorpe; Buffington, Lehighton; Thomas Heinick, Palmerton; Mark Christ, Panther Valley; James DeVivo, Pleasant Valley; and Shannon Shughart, Weatherly.Songs included "The Star-Spangled Banner," "Carbon County Band March," "Genius of Paul Simon," "Radetzky March," "A Childhood Remembered," "Mountain Thyme," "Forge of Vulcan," "Espana Cani," "Kirkpatrick Fanfare," "Somewhere in Time," "Ammerland," "Benjamin Franklin and the Art of Music," and "Africa: Ceremony, Song and Ritual.""The students' talents and dedication to this art is evident by their outstanding level of musicianship," Buffington said.
